Provisions
The New York Journal of Philosophy is a publication dedicated to inspiring philosophical reflection in the general public. Contributing authors should write in a style that addresses our particular audience.
Pieces must be philosophy-related. In addition to more academic submissions, we do welcome more literary or biographical work.
Length should be between 200 and 5000 words. If you are writing a longer article, please include a brief abstract at the beginning of your piece.
Hyperlinks, footnotes, or endnotes should be considered throughout, wherever appropriate. For example, if you make reference to the “An Lushan rebellion,” assume that at least some of your readers will benefit from the added context. Please be consistent with your choice.
Please follow the Chicago-style format for your citations and bibliography.
Limit the length of quotations. If you are to critique a longer quotation, then set it off as an indented passage. Otherwise, paraphrase it in your own words.
By sending us an article, should it be accepted, you give us the right to publish it in the digital editions of the New York Journal of Philosophy. Authors may publish their contributions elsewhere, so long as we are acknowledged as the place of first publication.
Any questions or concerns can be sent to journal@nyphilosophy.org. We’re happy to hear from you even before you submit a draft!
