To assume that the performance review and the desire to upsell oneself is something unique to the modern worker is a bit naive. A potter in Ancient Greece would no doubt have touted their work as superior as workers building ancient cities would have no doubt been reprimanded for slow production. The difference is where the modern worker would be fired the ancient workers likely would’ve been whipped or worse. There are too many who’ve lived over too many years to assume it’s any different now than it was a thousand years ago. We have different words now but the same thoughts and actions. If anything, we have it easier than Sisyphus since he had a bolder and we just have answerable questions asked a thousand miles away over the phone
